Scope of Work

The Official Website for the Hartford East Bus Rapid Transit Feasibility Study

The following are the seven basic steps that are being taken to complete this study:

1. Existing data will be collected which will include existing reports that are relative to the project area, bus routes, transit ridership, parking counts at park and ride lots, etc.

2. Using the gathered data, an assessment of existing and future operations no-build (without a busway) will be completed.

3. The initial alternatives will be developed in sufficient detail to insure that no fatal flaws occur at this stage of development and will be analyzed using ConnDOT’s travel demand model.

4. This model will develop initial bus ridership estimates for each of the alternatives.

5. These results will be reviewed and evaluated for each alternative.  It will then be determined which alternatives are physically, operationally, and financially feasible.

6. After the evaluation, a single alternative, also called the locally preferred alternative, will be selected and a draft final report will be compiled.

7. The findings of the study will be presented to the public at a public meeting and the opportunity will be given for comment.  Once the public’s comments are addressed, a Final Report will be prepared and published.

In addition to the public meeting that will be held to obtain public comment for the final report, public information meetings will be held throughout the study to update the public on what has been accomplished as well as to obtain public input.  Newsletters will also be published and mailed to all interested members of the public.  These newsletters will also be posted on this website.
